NHS General Meeting Minutes 8/17/22
Officer Attendance: Izzy, Gavin, Lana, Taylor, Katey, Coral, Ella
Meeting was started at 11:45. Gavin welcomed everyone back and looks forward to the new year. Our theme is “No Stone Left Unturned” and we want to all become better leaders and community members through this theme. New procedure is to sign in with the Qr code and text the officers if you will be absent. Eating is allowed as long as we clean up after ourselves.
We have $3600 and are looking to add more through dues and carwash fundraiser. Club contracts due on 9/9 and dues are $20 and due 9/21. This will go towards banquet and bonding events throughout the year.
Lana took the mic and said any service event over the Summer will count for Q1 hours (anything after 6/8). 2 hours max from donations this year which includes gofundmes and supply drives. As soon as donations are given you must send Lana a picture. Send a picture of everyone at an event if there is not an officer present. Unless Hope in an Envelope is on service sheet, it isn't an in club event.
Look at service sheet for all opportunities for this quarter. This is very similar to last year and has all necessary information. First event is the school supplies drive. There is a box in Rohols room with a list of requested items. DO NOT SUBMIT CASH- SUPPLIES ONLY! There will be a beach cleanup at Toronita from 9-10 on 8/28 for Gavin’s CAS project. Izzy and Olivia CAS project 3v3 soccer tournament. $5 donation fee– submit google form linked on service sheet.
We will have a car wash at Ritter’s in the near future. We will do the ICC 9/17 in collaboration with SEA Club at Frank Rendon and Van Ave. Bring own buckets and gloves. Induction is tentatively 9/21. We need senior helpers! Hours vary, check sign up sheet. We will potentially enlist band members to provide entertainment. You can donate water and cupcakes for hours. Bring to Rohol’s room before lunch on 9/21.
There will be a 5k that we need volunteers for 7-10 9/24. There is a mandatory meeting 9/22 if you choose to sign up. There will be a special olympics event at Riddle on 9/24. Ongoing events include volusia diabetes fundraiser and free rice campaign. Create a free rice account and join the NHS group. Answer questions and rice is donated to those in need. Send Lana a screenshot of how much rice you have collected at the end of the quarter. 2 hours max.
Next meeting will be on 9/21. We will cover homecoming activities but some of these sign up sheets are already available. District meeting should be 10/16 at Mainland. More details will come out soon. Same as always, 5 in club and 5 out of club hours per quarter.
Rohol took the mic and encouraged recruitment of new members. Explain to potential new members they can get the info packet in C-14. It is the same process we went through so you can advise them on that. On the website you can see all the amazing things you get from your dues. We will address meeting make up later. For now just show up. Use the weebly, it has many resources.
Mrs. Keith took the mic and expressed her excitement and asked if we had a hand signal for the class of 2023. She made it clear that you must fulfill obligations. Ask officers, Rohol, or herself if you have questions.
Gavin asked to let him or Lana know if you have a CAS project and need volunteers and it will be promoted through NHS. Any questions or concerns, see Gavin.

March 23rd, 2022
Present: Alexa Wolfson, Salma Eldeeb, Marta Zherukha, Settembrina Lucia, Sarah Mallar, Baylee Behrens, Aleena Rahman, Mr. Rohol, and Mrs. Keith
Alexa opened the meeting at 5:30pm, and jumped in by going over the important information specifically pertaining to our seniors. She told the seniors at risk of dismissal since they are on probation that they have to take care of their hours by April 23 before our banquet. If they don’t, they will be dismissed. Alexa went over the names of seniors in danger of dismissal and told juniors as well that if they didn’t submit their quarter three hours they would be dismissed by April 5. She also let everyone know that we have not gone over the GPA issues for the semester therefore some seniors might get dismissed after quarter three grades are sorted. She also reminded juniors to maintain above a 3.5 GPA as we continue.
Alexa then continued on the meeting by going over information about our district meeting and district elections. Our last meeting for district NHS will be at Seabreeze high school on Monday, April 25 from 1 PM to 4 PM. We will have scholarship presentations and elections for next year‘s officers at that meeting. For all juniors who want to apply for district position see Mrs. Keith for the application which is due by April 8. Alexa then continued by going over the Creek NHS scholarship for seniors. She congratulated Catherine and Salma for winning the national NHS scholarship however continued on about how to apply for the creek one specifically. To win the NHS district scholarship, you must be a senior who applied and will be attending the April 25 meeting.
Rohol took the mic and transitioned into information about our senior banquet. The banquet will be on Sunday, April 24 at 6 PM in the media center. He covered our options for food from either Olive Garden, Monterey Grill, or Publix. He asked that all seniors place an order through the Google form available on our Excel sheet for which meal they would like at the banquet. The deadline to submit your preferences for your meal is April 15 in the morning (8am) because that’s when we are placing the order. Rohol discussed conflict with dates with some students and said that we would talk about it and try to figure out a day that would work better for most. However, the banquet will most likely be on April 24.
Alexa took back the mic and began by going over some of our volunteer opportunities. We are still deciding dates for our scrapbook and bulletin board helpers which will be announced through Sett. She then talked about how Marta’s Derbyshire place is still an option every Friday which would be very valuable especially for seniors on probation. For the banquet, Alexa said we need help from juniors in order to run the banquet which is a great way to get hours and finish quarter four without any obligations or on probation. She then talked about the Jewish Heritage Festival which is Sunday at the Casements from 10 to 5 which is not an in-club service opportunity; however, it’s a good way to connect with the community and get hours for CAS. Rohol took the mic and quickly told seniors desperate for hours they should look into volunteering at the track meet. He also quickly covered the Youth Civic Leadership experience application which is due on April 1. It has a $50 attendance fee however it’s a valuable experience and for juniors only. Miles Reynolds took the mic quickly and promoted Mr. and Miss. Spruce Creek competition which is upcoming. He encouraged members to buy tickets and support our fellow classmates.
At around 5:50pm, Alexa dismissed our seniors from the meeting as there weren't any other announcements for them. We then segwayed into the election portion of the meeting. Potential officers gave their speeches to all the juniors which included: Gavin Dain and Pranati Pasumarthi for president; Coral Rees and Lawrence Singletary for vice president; Izzy Castillon, Shaily Raval, and Lauren Taylor for Secretary; Katey Brown and Mirette Henry for treasurer; Lana Jackson for service chair; Isabella Chase, Lily Lehr, and Ella Moore for historian; and Taylor Appleford for the director of digital and communications. Their speeches are posted on our NHS teams page which is available to all for watching. Rohol told members the voting is open until midnight and that we will know by tomorrow who our new officers are. He continued by telling members that in May we will have a junior bonding event which will be organized by our new officers and invited students to join the student leadership beyond high school at 7 PM if they would like to learn about student leadership at the college level.
Alexa thanked members for running for leadership positions for the upcoming school year and Rohol told members the new board would be in communications. Alexa ended the meeting at 6:20pm and thanked members for attending.
February 16th, 2022
Present: Alexa Wolfson, Salma Eldeeb, Marta Zherukha, Settembrina Lucia, Sarah Mallar, Baylee Behrens, Aleena Rahman, Mr. Rohol, and Mrs. Keith
Sarah started the meeting at 5:30pm and began by covering the first few announcements we have for this month. To start, she went over how we have a bonding activity tomorrow in the gym which will count for 0.5 in-club hours. Then Alexa took back the mic and thanked members for both their participation with Grandma Sandy, but also their participation during Black History Month. She then brought up how we will be having a club-expo on February 24th and we would love members to come and represent and potentially gain hours.
Next Alexa transitioned into upcoming service activities and invited Marta to speak about a few. She talked about how we are hosting the Causeway park cleanup on February 22 from 4 to 5 PM which will count for one in-club hour. Next, we have our final plarn creating event in Mr. Rohol’s room during lunch on February 23 which will also double as a Q&A with the officers about the duties and obligations of their board positions. Finally Marta talked about the paper flower messages for an elementary school which will be happening February 24 after school in the media center.
Alexa took back the mic and brought up how Habitat for Humanity is now open to people who are under 18 years old. Alexa said that people that are 18 years old will have priority and that you should only contact Alexa about attending if you actually plan to participate and are sure you can attend. She then talked about the campus cleanup we will be hosting on March 8 and invited Hamza to the microphone to talk about his diabetes fundraiser for the county. Hamza explained that for every $10 donated to their fund, members will receive one in-club hour. The deadline for NHS members to receive their hours for this is March 13. All of these events that were mentioned by the officers are accessible to sign up through the excel sheet with all of our service opportunities.
Finally Alexa closed out the majority of all the information from the meeting by going over some reminders. She told members that quarter three hours are due March 13. Seniors are highly recommended to complete all of their quarter three hours so that they won’t be responsible for any hours on quarter four. If you are a senior and on probation after quarter three, you will be responsible for making up your hours during quarter four. The seniors with GPA probation need to have a strong quarter three in order to get a diploma sticker, banquet, and honor cords, and need to be attentive and active in service hours quarter three. Finally, Alexa encouraged members once more to attend the bonding activity in the gym tomorrow. It’s a free .5 in club hours along with free pizza and bonding time.
Rohol took the mic and introduced the officer roles and requested for our officers to go over their duties and responsibilities. Before she began, Alexa quickly dismissed all senior members and juniors that had no interest in running for officer positions. However, she strongly suggested sticking around in order to learn. All of the officers talked about their required duties to make this club work and shared tips with the members about how to run a successful board in order to keep this club sustained successfully and efficiently. After all of the board members completed their statements and advice about their jobs, Alexa checked with Rohol if he had any final comments and ended up ending the meeting at around 6:00pm.

NHS General Meeting Minutes
December 15th, 2021
Present: Alexa Wolfson, Salma Eldeeb, Marta Zherukha, Settembrina Lucia, Sarah Mallar, Baylee Behrens, Aleena Rahman, Mr. Rohol, and Mrs. Keith
Alexa started the meeting at 6:00pm. She started off by going over the announcements for the end of this quarter and the start of the next. Club photo day is January 13th and we will keep you updated on what shirts members should wear. Next she reminded all of those on probation from Q1 to make sure they have enough hours this quarter to make up for Q1. She also emphasized the importance of signing up for Derbyshire and actually showing up, as well as sending in photos afterwards since it is the only way to get credit.
Next, she covered volunteer opportunities for next quarter. Before beginning she reminded members to check ongoing events for last minute hours if you are still desperate. The quarter three excel sheet is now updated. On December 20 there will be a beach cleanup at Frank Rendon with Gavin for two hours. Also on January 5, Settembrina will be making her bulletin board and sign up is the first people that reply on the Remind when posted. On January 18 Marta needs help stringing up paper cranes which will count for one hour. Also, Aubrey and Maddie would love help making soccer game signs which would count for one hour on January 19. A great way to get in club hours is to attend our district meeting on January 22 at Mainland which starts at 1 PM. It counts for three hours in club
Alexa then continued on with some reminders. Election day for NHS is March 23 and if members that are interested would like more information about the position they are running for, they can contact the current officers to walk them through their roles/duties. Rohpl grabbed the mic and reminded members to adhere to all of the NHS pillars when at service events. As a member of NHS, you are representing our club especially during out of club service events and it is important to act accordingly. If you are running your own service event and an officer isn’t there, it is your role to make sure everyone is on task. Finally Alexa took back the mic and said that she would love members to pitch new ideas for service events. She also quickly mentioned our toys for tots drive will be extended to tomorrow
Alexa then opened the floor for questions and comments from our members. Miriam Girgis added a side note that hope in an envelope cards can be turned in by tomorrow in Mrs. Delaney's room or Mr. Rohol's room to get one hour in-club at the last minute. Also Taylor Fordham took the mic and explained her service project of the reading room. The reading room offers tutoring to elementary schoolers having trouble with reading/comprehension. There is a volunteering sign-up sheet that will be sent out and at a local elementary school they are tutoring the second and fourth Saturday of every month from 9 to 12. If members have questions feel free to contact her for more information. Alexa brought up the idea once again about a bonding activity for the NHS. Sarah suggested a field night solely for NHS after school one day this quarter where the seniors will compete against the juniors to see who is the superior class. It will also be a fun way to get to know each other.
Before closing, Alexa went over how quarter two submissions are due by December 19. The link to fill out your hours will be sent out in a couple minutes after the meeting ends and Alexa reminded members that you need at least five in club hours and that any extra in club hours can be carried over to out of club hours. Last reminder is that the next meeting is January 19th at 6pm.
After all the questions were answered from our members, Alexa thanked everyone for attending and dismissed members that didn't have any more questions from the meeting at 6:25.
NHS General Meeting Minutes
November 17th, 2021
Present: Alexa Wolfson, Salma Eldeeb, Marta Zherukha, Settembrina Lucia, Sarah Mallar, Baylee Behrens, Aleena Rahman, Mr. Rohol, and Mrs. Keith
Alexa began the meeting at 6:02pm. She congratulated members on the success of basket brigade, the park cleanup, and other completed service projects. She then announced that the theme for door decorating is holiday cartoons. Then, Alexa asked members to not be shy with ideas and fun service activities and to pitch them to Alexa/Marta. Quickly she went over the Remind because it's crucial to join to stay up to date with service activities and changes. Finally, she reminded members to stay on top of hours and regular rules apply to all members this quarter for submission.
Then we jumped into our service opportunities. This Thursday 11/18, we have Muffin Mania in the Black Hawk Inn, we need members to donate juice and help run it. Make sure to sign up on the excel sheet. For Operation Christmas Child, this Friday 11/19, we will be packing the gifts and we need donations so feel free to bring them in early into C-14 and sign up under the sign up sheet if you are participating. Contact Sarah with questions. The door decorating opportunity needs to be completed by 12/6 and the theme pertains to any cartoon christmas film or show. Josh is running this so contact him for more information.
Dylin Bundza took the mic and explained Toys for Tots. It's a drive for underprivileged children in the area and the goal is to collect over 200 unused toys. The drive is from 11/29-12/15, and there will be boxes all around the school where you can drop off donations.
Marta took the mic and continued explaining service projects. On 12/4 at the Marine Discovery Center, there will be oyster bagging from 9-12pm which will count for 3-in club hours. Don't forget to sign up through excel sheet and send pictures to Settembrina. On 11/29, we will be making paper snowflakes with positive messages after school in the media center which is a great opportunity to spread positivity while gaining 1 in-club hour. Finally Marta reminded us about the Campus cleanup on 12/14.
Quickly, Alexa covered some reminders including not forgetting to say “here” in meeting chat for attendance, checking service excel sheet frequently, and that Uptimism with Eric Chen is still looking for tutors . The last reminder goes out to the seniors of NHS reminding them that the scholarship application is due by 12/01.
Alexa dismissed members except for those who had questions for the officers. Most of those questions were asking about clarifications about upcoming service opportunities and how we count hours. After those were answered Marta quickly stated how Q1 in-club service hours for new members can carry over into Q2, however this is ONLY for new members. After this, Alexa ended the meeting at 6:33pm and thanked members for joining and asking useful questions.
NHS General Meeting Minutes
October 20th, 2021
Present: Alexa Wolfson, Marta Zherukha, Settembrina Lucia, Sarah Mallar, Baylee Behrens, Aleena Rahman, Mr. Rohol, and Mrs. Keith
Alexa began the meeting at 6:00pm and introduced our officers. President: Alexa Wolfson, Vice President: Joshua Spraker, Secretary: Sarah Mallar, Treasurer: Baylee Behrens, Service Chair: Marta Zherukha, Director of Digital/Communications: Aleena Rahman, Historian: Settembrina Lucia, NHS District President: Salma Eldeeb.
She then jumped right into the announcements for this month. Alexa talked about the following: “Make sure to say “Here” in the meeting chat since MS Teams attendance file hasn’t been fully trustable to Josh Spraker. There is a Budget Update = $4320 collected in dues; $1750 earned from the gong show. Likely have $8-9K in account so we should have a nice banquet or pretty many scholarships for seniors. Any requests/ideas to use club funds sent to Baylee B. FYI Generally, from your $20 senior dues about $10 of it is used for the Senior Banquet meal/event in April/May. Honor Cords/Diploma Seals cost about $7. Remaining cost is mostly a yearbook page + scrapbook.”
Alexa then quickly reminded specific members to make sure to pick up their NHS shirt in C14. She also heavily encouraged members to make sure they are on the Remind if not already. Alexa also told members about the pizza social/makeup induction ceremony on October 21st. The following students must attend in order to be inducted: Miller, Alexander G. Le, Jennifer Behore, Eden Suleiman, Kareem E. Catilino, Maria V.
Alexa also reviews our policies on service hour documentation, and tells members to still submit them despite being late if they are irresponsible. Also, she covered the following information: dismissal/probation letters went out today (10/20)... for clarity, on probation= V Arab, Dylin B, Katie D, Lindsey D, Rani K, Emily K, Christina L, Maggie P, Jackson R, Cassidy R, Fiona Y. Note: if on probation for insufficient in-club hours you do need to make that up in the following quarter with additional in-club hours (2 hrs in-club hrs probation = 7+ in club + 5+ out club hours in following quarter).
After covering the announcements, Alexa handed over the mic to Lana Jackson to share with our members upcoming service activities. She started with Operation Changing Lives, which she said starts on around November 11th. They are doing a 5k at Daytona beach shores, and need people to pass out waters and cheer on runners. They would also like help during christmas time for their parade when it comes to creating a float and donating candy! Finally she mentions that around december 11th (she isn't completely certain on the dates) they are doing a toy drive for local elementary kids who need toys as well as shoes.Lana finished by going over the Trunk or Treat event at Christ the King Church on October 31 from 4-6pm. we Need volunteers to decorate their cars and hand out candy and for parking lot directing.
Marta took the mic and explained the remainder of the volunteering opportunities. All of them are linked in the excel calendar with specific dates and times. There is the Lighthouse Loop 5K on October 23rd. The Town Children’s Halloween Party is on October 30th from 5-7pm. Wear Appropriate costumes; volunteering entails running games, haunted houses and hayrides. Marta also reminded members about Bulletin Board Decorating with Sett on Nov 3rd for .5hr of in-club credit, and we will send out a Remind closer to the day. There is the Halifax Art Festival on November 6th and 7th for shifts of 2 hours (with Marta). And finally we have the Basket Brigade accepting donations Nov 1-12 with 2 donations for max credit.
Alexa took back the mic and reminded our members about our pizza social/ induction during lunch the next day. As the meeting came to a close, Rohol showed members our google calendar on our website, the difference between the NHS and NSHSS(not real), and finally informed our newly inducted members that the pictures from that event are available on our facebook. Before the meeting came to its official close, new member Miles grabbed the mic informing members about AITR’s haunted hallway event coming up the next week.
After Miles, Alexa thanked him and the rest of the members for being at the meeting and closed it at 6:27pm.
NHS General Meeting Minutes
September 15, 2021
Present: Alexa Wolfson, Salma Eldeeb, Marta Zherukha, Settembrina Lucia, Sarah Mallar, Baylee Behrens, Aleena Rahman, Mr. Rohol, and Mrs. Keith
Alexa began the meeting at 6pm and welcomed the new members. She let us know that the makeup quiz and meeting recording will be available in a thread on Microsoft teams after the meeting.
Alexa started by covering the announcements which pertain to our older members. She read the names of members who still need to pay their dues and fill out their contracts and pushed them to get those in as soon as possible. Then she let members know to see Rohol before September 17th in order to get a new shirt in case it is damaged or misplaced. The next announcement was to make sure you join the correct Remind group. We have different Remind groups for our seniors and juniors, so make sure you are signed up under the correct one.
Alexa decided to cover our volunteer opportunities that we have set up so far. She reminded new members that they aren't responsible for Q1 hours and any hours they get this quarter can carry over into the next one. For the rest of the members, the traditional 5 in-club and 5 out of club hours are required for Q1. She also showed members the calendar we have on our website.
The first opportunity Alexa covered are donations towards our NHS induction on September 29th. We ask for store bought cupcakes or snack bags which will count as 1 in-club hour. You can only get 2hrs out of this donation and make sure to bring them no earlier than the day before the induction. Old members aren't required to attend the induction however we are looking for volunteers with setup and chairs.
Marta took the microphone and started talking about a great service activity involved with family days. Family days is from September 23rd-26th and will count for 3 in-club hours. Directions are on our calendar with ways to sign up. All you have to do is sign up for a shift and fill out a form on the family days website and you're good to go.
Alexa quickly mentioned an out of club opportunity that she has been a part of since she was young. It's called Teen Court and it's a great opportunity to become engaged and educated with the law and justice system locally. It's real court cases and looks amazing on applications. There's a link on our calendar for the website and how to sign up.
Another opportunity that Alexa strongly encourages participation in is our annual gong show. Applications are due Friday the 17th and it's an amazing show where you can do any act you want and it's a really fun show for everyone. You get 1 in-club hour for signing up or getting someone else to do it. We also request volunteers to sell tickets during the week of, and the signup sheet for both are on our google calendar. Quickly Alexa also touched on the upcoming in-club service experience for running the 5k on the 18th however all the spots are filled up so she thanked all of those who decided to participate.
We have a campus cleanup on October 14th where we will all disperse around the school and pick up trash which will be 1 in-club hour. To sign up, just put your name on our signup sheet and we have no limit on how many members can participate.
Sarah took the mic and explained to our members how field night is going to work this year. She told members how on the 28th of September, we are building a team of athletic members to compete against other clubs within the school. We will be playing fun games like dodgeball and tug of war and it would be a great opportunity to represent the NHS and bond with the other members. It will count for 1.5 in-club hours and is open to juniors and seniors.
The last service opportunity was covered by Miriam Girgis who is the president of the club Hope in an Envelope. Last year they worked closely with NHS members and we created cards for our nurses. This year Miriam mentioned we will be making cards for breast cancer awareness month, and if you want more information and/or interested in joining the club, make sure to sign up for their Remind. Alexa invited members to speak up about any local service opportunities that we do not know about because we are open to new ideas and events.
Alexa reminded members that the quarter ends October 17th so make sure to stay on top of your hours. Quickly Rohol and Alexa discussed information about the gong show and showed members that if they scroll down on the agenda they can see the names of all the members and your probation status. Alexa officially dismissed the seniors/old members from the meeting at 6:16pm.
Alexa congratulated our new NHS members for their acceptance and then Marta took the mic to give a detailed explanation and clarification on our hours. By the end of the second quarter, our new members will be responsible for getting a total of 10 hours, 5 of which MUST be in-club. The service activities that were shared earlier were practically all examples of in-club hour volunteer activities. She then showed members our weebly website and how to get to our excel sheet. Marta talked about one of our ongoing activities: the Derbyshire Food Pantry. She says Fridays from 5:30-7pm members can get 1.5 in club hours if they come to pass out meals and pack food. For more information on specific dates and times, head to our google calendar on our website or our excel sheet. Only 6 people are needed per friday. Contact Marta through Remind if there's any confusion.
Rohol then took the microphone and showed the members all they will get at the induction ceremony including a certificate and cord at graduation. He then introduced our other sponsor, Mrs. Keith, who has been working with us for many years. He also encouraged members to send photos to Mrs. Keith, Settembrina, or Aleena for the scrapbook. Next Rohol showed the new members the T-shirt color survey and wants them to fill it out asap. Rohol continued giving members a rundown on basic club rules and guidelines.
Mrs. Keith talked about the National Merit Scholarship and how two of our previous members got 3200$ from it, so it's an awesome opportunity and encouraged members to take advantage of it. Rohol took back the mic and told our new members about our absence policies, which is you can't have 3 absences in a row or else you will be exited from the club. You can makeup our meeting on our teams page by filling out a quiz and after 2 missed meetings you will get a notice from us.
Finally Rohol played the video walking members through the induction ceremony and how that all will work. Make sure you watch the video we made walking members through the induction ceremony in case you missed it. Rohol took some questions from members about the induction and then Alexa dismissed all members from the meeting at 6:40pm.
NHS General Meeting Minutes
August 18, 2021
Present: Alexa Wolfson, Salma Eldeeb, Marta Zherukha, Settembrina Lucia, Sarah Mallar, Baylee Behrens, Aleena Rahman, Mr. Rohol, and Mrs. Keith
The meeting started at 6pm by Alexa. She thanked the members for joining despite the difficulties we have and will be enduring this year. She introduced Josh’s hype video for the incoming members in hope to show it later in the meeting. She then reminded our members that dues should be paid online this Friday, and that payment counts for 1 in-club hour.
Alexa invites Marta to the mic to explain one of our ongoing service activities: the Derbyshire Food Pantry. Marta says Fridays from 5:30-7pm members can get 1.5 in club hours if they come to pass out meals and pack food. For more information on specific dates and times, head to our google calendar on our website or our excel sheet. Only 6 people are needed per friday. Marta also mentioned that she talked to coach gallon about the upcoming memorial 5k for Savannah and David Monhey. We need volunteers from 5:30-8:30am to direct parking and prevent runners from warming up on the track with spikes. This 5k is a great opportunity to gain 3 in-club hours.
Alexa returns to the mic and asks our senior members to help promote NHS to the juniors and give them a general basis about the club. For hours this quarter, Alexa tells members that they are due October 17th and as usual, you need at least 5 in-club and 5 out of club hours. This year we agreed to require our new members to have all but Q1 hours since they don't have the full time of Q1 to get their hours.
As the meeting continues, Marta begins to share other service activities. Port Orange Family Days are in need of volunteers. To sign up, volunteers need to fill out a form, accessible through a city website link. Volunteering would entail 3hr shifts which would count for 3 in-club hours. They are looking for help with directing people to rides and stands, as well as cleaning up around the area as people come and go.
Rohol chimed in and asked Marta about the cards we are making to support our troops and if there is a sample template for them. Marta told members that are interested to make sure that they exclude personal information like their name and contact information, but instead to tell them about yourselves and wish them well overall. In order for the cards to be given to the soldiers, Marta tells the members to give the cards to Rohol in his classroom.
Alexa also continues on by introducing even more service opportunities this quarter. We will be taking donations to the Humane Society and counting them for hours. As in past years, take a picture of your donation and receipt to get 1 in-club hr for every 10$ donated. This activity is run by Natara Noronha-Weeks so if you have questions feel free to contact her.
Alexa then calls our district president Salma Eldeeb to the mic to ask about district NHS meetings. Before Salma speaks, Alexa adds that she strongly encourages members to participate in our district meetings in order to show our school support and get in-club hours. Salma was asked by Alexa where the first district meeting will be held, and Salma said she believes it's at Spruce Creek, however she will confirm as soon as possible.
After talking with Salma, Alexa continued on with the service activities. We will be having a campus cleanup on October 14th which is a low effort activity to get one in-club hour. Also, we will be doing the breast cancer awareness chalk art again. Alexa then started to dive into homecoming week and how Josh will be running the Gong Show, but then Rohol took the mic to add more specifics. Homecoming week starts September 27th, and field night will be the 28th, proceeding our incoming NHS member induction on the 29th. Also NHS might do muffin mania this year per Mrs. Keith.
Marta quickly added that our card service activities (Hope in an Envelope and Support our Troops), are more designed for members who can’t often be physically present at service activities so try to reserve spots and materials for members who are extremely busy.
Alexa took the mic again and announced we plan on doing a club bonding activity outside sometime between the first and second quarter. This is in hopes to help everyone get to know each other better, and in order to make it more enjoyable, we plan to send out a google form asking members for suggestions of bonding activities they would like.
Member Victoria Buenner asked if volunteering with freshman orientation would count for hours, and if so which type. Marta explained that the activity wasn't led through NHS so it would count for out of club hours and then gave a reminder about how we require at least 5 in-club and out of club hours, but that in-club hours can carry over to out of club, but not vice versa.
Alexa took back the mic and asked members if they knew if Beta club and Interact club had teacher sponsors. Rohol mentioned that we were looking to partner with their presidents in order to create numerous service activities throughout the year. Members in the chat told us that Aleena is the president of Beta club and Mrs. Leathead is the sponsor, and Victoria is the president of Interact club and Mrs. Dougal is their sponsor.
As the meeting came to a close, Rohol reminded members that we still have half a dozen lanyards and t-shirts left to be picked up so members need to come to his room to get them before they get put into inventory if they haven't already. Alexa announced she covered everything she planned to so Rohol closed the meeting with a couple announcements. He said the next meeting is September 15th and reminded members to send their Q1 hours to Marta if they completed them in the past couple of weeks or else they won't be logged.
Alexa closed by reminding members to stay up to date with the NHS by following our social meeting and adjourned the meeting at 5:22pm.
NHS General Meeting Minutes
April 14, 2021
Present: Alexa Wolfson, Marta Zherukha, Josh Spraker, Settembrina Lucia, Sarah Mallar, Baylee Behrens, Aleena Rahman, Mr. Rohol, and Mrs. Keith
Mr. Rohol started the meeting on Microsoft teams at 5:29pm. We had errors on the general channel so we got a late start. Rohol shared his screen with the club at 5:36. Alexa Wolfson took the mic and introduced our new officers. She started sharing announcements for our fourth quarter service opportunities.
Alexa reminded the club about the ongoing Hope in an Envelope and DOC (Daytona Outreach Center) projects. Hope in an Envelope chair persons include Miriam Girgis and Aleena Rahman. At this time, no more volunteers are needed. The DOC out of club service donations run by Joy Johnson and Yara Nasar still has boxes in the office/atrium/freshman atrium. A list of items needed was sent out. The donation drive ends April 16th.
Alexa announced to members that our NHS weebly site has a new interactive service activities calendar in replacement of the google excel sheet we primarily use. This allows members to be more organized and have the service opportunities more accessible. Alexa continued to provide announcements to the members. There will be lanyard distribution for members to come get before or after school on any date as soon as possible in portable 7. She also reminded the seniors to submit their senior scholarships by or preferably before April 28th. Alexa brought up the upcoming NHS district meeting and passed the microphone to Meryl Liu to provide the members with more information.
Meryl announced District NHS positions are open for applications. One person from each school in the district will be eligible for a position, however you don't apply for a specific position. Reach out to Meryl for more questions on becoming a potential district officer. She announced the next district meeting will be on Sunday April 25th from 1:30-3pm. There will be a form sent out on Remind where members can document if they are interested in attending. This is because at our last district meeting, we had an over abundance of Spruce Creek NHS members compared to the rest of the schools. She stated attending the meeting is a great idea for anyone looking for fourth quarter hours or if you are a senior on probation. If you are running for a district position, the deadline to submit your application is Wednesday April 21st. Make sure to reach out to Mr. Rohol as soon as possible if you plan on running to get his recommendation. Meryl restated that it's important to document if you are planning on attending so that other schools can have equal representation when voting. The final reminder Meryl gave to the members was to be on the lookout for links concerning the district meeting/election through Remind.
Alexa thanked Meryl for sharing and Mrs. Keith reinforced members about being ready for the district meeting attendance link to be sent out. Alexa then invited Yara Nasar to take the microphone and share with the members an upcoming opportunity for out of club hours.
Yara told members about an upcoming out of club service opportunity. The school’s production of Legally Blonde needs a front of house committee. Requirements and expectations of the job are as follows: greet audience members, be there at call time from beginning to end (specific times will be announced soon), wear a white shirt and black bottoms, be friendly and familiar with auditorium since you will ushering people to their seats, have a mask on all times, and enforce covid protocols. Also, if you are a part of the front of house committee, you get to view the show for free. The google form to sign up for this will be sent out soon and there will only be 15 spots available.
After Yara finished, Alexa prompted Marta to give more information about volunteering at the Derbyshire Food Place Pantry. Marta told the members about the dates to volunteer and the type of work it entails. Specific dates are available on a google spreadsheet as well as a place to sign up. Volunteers are needed on Wednesday and Fridays. For Wednesdays, they need 4 volunteers to work a shift from 4-5pm (1hr in club) which includes tasks such as shelving, sorting groceries, and prepping the pantries. For Fridays, they need 7 volunteers to work a shift 5-7:30pm (2.5hrs in club) which includes distributing food, working the drive through, and packing meals. Marta said if you have any questions, to feel free to contact her.
Alexa continued on the meeting by providing more upcoming service opportunities. She brought up the two earth day beach cleanups we are having on the weekend of April 24th and 25th which will count as in club hours.. On the 24th of April, the cleanup will happen at Andy Romano beach approach in Ormond Beach. On the 25th of April, there will be another cleanup at Toronita beach park in Port Orange. Also, an ongoing out of club service opportunity is donating used eyeglasses to the Lions club. At most, you can donate 2 pairs which will count for 0.5 hours each. If you can take the eyeglasses straight to the Lions club that would be best, however if not, feel free to give them straight to Alexa. Alexa also skimmed over secretaries day which is on April 20th. This service opportunity will be run by Mrs. Keith where members can pass out flowers to our secretaries in the main office. The signup sheet for secretaries day can be found on our newly renovated calendar on our website. Finally, Alexa reminded the members to tell officers if you are planning on attending the NHS district meeting because it is important we have an equal representation from each school’s chapter in our district.
After Alexa finished covering the service opportunities, she closed out her section of the meeting by covering some reminders for club members. She explained how the NHS is working on introducing more take-home service opportunities for students that are constantly busy with school and/or extracurriculars. We have done this in the past with the take-home rock painting and origami making. Once again, Alexa emphasized the importance of sending things to Marta instead of Iris unless you are a senior on probation. Alexa pulled up some pictures of painted rocks that two students submitted without a name, and quickly figured out who the two unidentified rocks belonged to.
Rohol took the microphone and jumped in to remind the members of the amount of work put into making the calendar, so make sure members check the calendar before asking unnecessary questions. He said the older google doc is still available if needed and can be seen on the weebly site and in the chat of our general meetings. He made the final call to all students who haven't picked up their NHS t-shirts yet and warned them if they waited too long, they would be put back into inventory.
Rohol mentioned the Women's Center Drive ran by Marta which has been going on for weeks. He told members that it ended this Friday the 16th. Each 10$ donated equates to 1 in-club hour and there are many boxes around the school to donate. If the members have any questions about the drive, they can contact Marta.
Quickly, Alexa took back the microphone and informed members that the next meeting will be held on May 12th. She explained that we picked the day to work best with the upcoming exam dates for IB/AP classes. She also told the members that we are planning on continuing hosting NHS meetings on Microsoft Teams. This way, it's more accessible for everyone with after school activities or people who don't feel comfortable physically attending. The meeting on May 12th will be held at 5:30 because it seems as though that time works with more members.
Rohol announced that the reason there aren't many service activities this quarter is due to the fact that the Derbyshire Place Food Pantry led by Marta is our main service activity.
As the meeting came to a close, Mrs. Keith reminded Alexa to post the questions pertaining to information covered in the meeting for all members who were absent. Alexa thanked Mrs. Keith for the reminder and motioned to call the meeting to a close. Rohol agreed and ended the meeting recording at 5:56pm. Rohol officially closed the meeting and dismissed all members at 6pm.

These events may include the face shield decoration, face shield donations, paintbrush/paint donations, making origami cranes, TikTok tips videos, or the MOAS Trail.
This quarter will need its own service hours unlike last semester. The quarter runs from January 23rd to March 19th. A total of 10 hours, 5 or more in-club and the rest out-of-club. The google form will be due Sunday, March 21st midnight. The excel sheet on the website has all of the activities from this quarter and members should have kept track of what they did. For the third quarter, members can volunteer on March 9th and March 19th. For the fourth quarter, there will be an event on April 3rd. Check-in with Gallon and take a picture to send to Iris. If you sign up and don’t show up, you don’t get the hours. If you are part of the track team and help out and are not signed up on sheet, you can still count this as in-club hours.
Marta and Settembrina then went over the Women’s Center Donation Drive which starts on March 29th. The list of all items needed are on MS Teams and boxes will be located around school. 1 hour will count as a $10 donation.

Members can join a committee and help plan senior week which will take place April 12th-16th. The signups can be found on MS Teams.
Maddie took the mic back to explain the Dream Green Volusia project led by Natalie Pilipczak. Members can write an email to help defend the Ormond Loop. The emails will be sent to Echo and will count as 0.5 in-club hours. Members can also help sign the petition and donate and/or read more information about this cause. The email templates for the Green Volusia service are on teams. Send pictures as proof to Iris.
Then Miriam and Aleena’s Hope in an Envelope project was mentioned. The next cards will be rolled out after spring break. For the latest updates, follow @hope_envelope on Instagram.
The 4th quarter service opportunities have already been posted on the Excel sheet on the website and members are cautioned to take advantage of this.
Maddie reminded members that if anyone has any local volunteer or service opportunities they would like to do, they can feel free to contact any of the board members. Members then posted questions in the thread on MS teams for the activities.
She explained that the NHS will be doing an event/giving gifts to make up for the formal banquet this year. The next meeting is expected to be on April 21st. Then seniors were dismissed, while juniors stayed for elections.

NHS General Meeting Minutes
February 17, 2021
Present: Alisa Van Deijck, Madeline Halleran, Sia Bharucha, Iris Qi, Kaylee Van Rij, Reem Abdelghany, Elizabeth Greenberg, Mariya Khan, Meryl Liu, Mrs.Keith, and Mr.Rohol
Alisa started off with some announcements. She reminded members that they would only get marked for attendance if they stayed for the whole meeting and that you cannot join the meeting and then leave.
Mr.Rohol took the mic to tell people that the form for submitting hours for quarter three will be in the same place as it was for semester one. He went over the people that were on probation and told people that they will need to clear them this quarter. The probation hours are added onto the quarter hours. If students are on probation, they will not be able to take office or run for elections.
Alisa took the mic back and told members that all of the sign-up links are already under an MS Teams thread and on the website. She told members that they must know what activities they completed and cannot just ask Iris for all of them. It is their responsibility.
She then moved onto the election application google form. The voting will be done online and all prospective board members will do a short speech with their cameras on. District board elections will occur after the March 17 meetings.
Mr.Rohol took the mic to remind members about the officer position rule by Mrs.Rocco. No student is allowed to have a position of President, Vice President, Secretary, or Treasurer in more than one club. Since NHS officer elections are quite early, they must take priority over any other club positions.
Alisa then began to go over the role of officers. She described her responsibilities that come with being the president, especially during this odd year. She then passed the mic to Maddie, who went over her role as Vice President. Then Sia took the mic to explain the role of Secretary and Elizabeth explained the description of treasurer. Iris explained her job as the service chair, which showed to be one of the most important roles this year and took a lot of time commitment. Reem and Kaylee then explained their jobs as the historian and webmaster, respectively. Mariya also explained her role as the bulletin board manager and then told members how this job would be combined with the historian role for the 2021 board.
Alisa took the mic back to continue going over the application form. There is a little less than a month to complete it as it is due on March 12th. Each member will only be able to vote once. She then handed the mic to District President, Meryl Liu.
Meryl began to explain the success of the past district meeting. There was a keynote speaker from the national NHS and there was an activity that went very well. The final district meeting will be either on April 18th or April 24th, depending on the prom schedule, so Meryl advised members to stay alert of reminds and other info regarding the date. The District officer positions will be discussed after March 17th.
Alisa then went over some general reminders. If members have completed service activities this quarter, they need to send photos to Iris ASAP so that she can keep an official record. The quarter ends on March 19th and the google form will be due on Sunday, March 21st at midnight. Keep track of your hours so that you can easily fill the form out then.
She reminded all members that they should not have any unexcused absences as there is an abundance of time to make them. The makeup quiz should be turned in on time after watching the video recording. Members will be kicked out of the club after the third unexcused absence.
There are a lot of third quarter service activities, so Alisa started to go over them. First up is the book drive in partnership with Key Club. Meryl explained that the Box Making will happen after school on February 17th from 3:30 to 4:30. People can help transfer books to Dr.Smiley’s room for 0.5 hours after school on February 19th, 26th, March 5th, 12th, and 15th. The signup sheet is in the MS Teams thread already. Members may also donate books from February 17th to March 15th for out of club hours. Pictures must be sent to Iris for credit.
Then Mariya Khan went over the Black History Month Kahoot. It will be after 2nd period announcements on February 19th. It will be run via link for Kahoot and only teachers will have access. The Kahoot is to be played as a class and there will be prizes awarded to the top three teams.
Then Alisa took the mic back and went over her Mural Project. On March 6th, seniors will have the opportunity to paint a mural on Ms.Duncan’s wall as a thank-you/farewell from seniors. There will be two shifts, each with max 10 volunteers, from 10-12 and 12-2. Both juniors and seniors can donate paint and paintbrushes from February 18th to the 26th. The leftover supplies will be donated to Mr.Moskola. The sign-up sheets and docs with the supplies needed are posted on MS Teams already.
There will be a dual beach cleanup on February 20th and February 21st. The first one will be held at Toronita Beach Park at 9am and will count as one service hour. The second one will be held at the Ormond Beach Ramp off of Granada at 9am and Mr.Rohol will attend.
Then Isabella Haddad took the mic to explain her Family Renew Garden Project. Five volunteers are needed on February 20th and 27th from 9:30-12pm to help set up a garden. Bella said they are planning on planting vegetables, herbs, etc. The garden will need to be taken care of every Friday after that, so people who are low on hours can take this opportunity to get hours. Alisa told members that the sign up sheet with the address has already been posted as well.
Alisa then explained the 100 year NHS celebration. NHS turns 100 years old this year, so to celebrate, SCHS will be making 1,000 cranes based on the old Japanese tradition that it would bring luck for the year. There will be a meeting after school on March 1st to make the cranes, which will also be livestreamed on MS Teams. At the meeting, Alisa will give background on the history of the tradition, origins of NHS, and give a tutorial on how to make the cranes. If members are attending in person, they must fill out the signup sheet that has been sent out already. The paper cranes must be submitted to Mrs.Keith’s mailbox by March 3rd to receive credit.
Then Kaylee took the mic to explain the TikTok Tips service opportunity. Submissions will be allowed from March 1st to March 12th and members can submit either 2, 15 second TikToks, or 1, 60 second TikTok. Categories may include tips for incoming juniors or the incoming seniors, whether they are specifically IB related or just general tips. They can be around high school memories or mental positivity as well. Send the videos to Iris for credit, all videos must be school appropriate.
Reem then took the mic to explain the face shield decorating for local elementary schools. After school on March 12th, members may decorate two face shields to earn 1 service hour. 1 hour will be awarded for each $10 mask donation.
Yara Nasr took the mic to explain the Daytona Outreach Center project led by her and Joy Johnson. Members can receive out of club hours for donating items such as mens jeans, hoodies, and underwear. In club hours will be received by volunteering starting on Saturdays in March. They will be from 10-2 in two hour shifts with 10 volunteers max. The sign up sheet will go out when the dates are provided.
Meryl then took the mic to discuss the plarn making activity. It will occur after school on March 3rd from 2:45 to 3:45 in the main atrium. If members have extra plastic bags, then they can bring them as well.
Alisa went over the MOAS Nature Trail cleanup next. Members can help clean up the trail and bring their gardening gloves. It will be on March 11th from 4:00-5:00. If anyone needs last-minute hours, this is a great opportunity.
Finally, she went over the virtual activities that have been going on since the beginning of the year. Emails of cards can be written to nursing homes and first responders and members can proofread books or volunteer as a Smithosinian transcriptor. There are also websites with wonderful service activities. Just remmebrs to send pictures to Iris for credit.
Alisa then reminded members that if they had any local volunteer or service opportunities they would like to do, they can contact any of the board members. She then adjourned the meeting at 5:45.
NHS General Meeting Minutes
January 20, 2020
Present: Alisa Van Deijck, Madeline Halleran, Sia Bharucha, Iris Qi, Kaylee Van Rij, Reem Abdelghany, Elizabeth Greenberg, Mariya Khan, Meryl Liu, Mrs.Keith, and Mr.Rohol
Alisa started the meeting at 5:30pm with some announcements. The quarter ends on Friday and all hours should be completed by now. She reminded members to send photos of themselves completing in-club activities to Iris for proof. There are no pictures required for out-of-club activities; however, members will need to have contact information for the sponsors.
It is almost time for elections for the new board. Applications will come out at the next meeting on February 17. They will be digital applications to accommodate with VolusiaLive members and they will need to be turned in on March 12th. All form submissions and voting will also be digital. All officers will come and give a description of the specific positions and roles at the next meeting. Voting will take place at the March 17th meeting after each applicant gives a short speech.
She proceeded with reminding members that it is mandatory to have pictures for credit, especially if there was no signup sheet at the event. There is no excuse to not have the 16 hours completed by now. Starting January 23rd, we will be going back to quarter hours. This means that only a minimum of 5 hours will be needed for in-club, with 10 hours total.
Final reminder was about the attendance policy. Members cannot miss three meetings in a row if they are all unexcused. Especially this year, with all of the meetings being recorded, members should be able to make up their attendance.
Alisa then shared some new information. If members happen to fall short on hours/GPA, they should expect a letter in their vcs2go.net email by January 29th to see what they need to do to stay in the club.
The google submission form for hours is due by midnight on January 22nd. Members need a minimum of 8 in-club hours with 16 hours total. You can only submit once and you must sign into the form with first and last name to prevent duplicate submissions. The in-club hours are on the weebly site, it is not Iris’s job to tell everyone what they did. It is a member’s responsibility to keep track. After recording the in-club hours, do the out-of-club hours. The out-of-club activities require contact information for the sponsors. Other than that, the form is pretty straight forward.
Members will receive a probation letter if they are low on hours. There are NO exceptions and the form must be submitted by midnight on January 22nd.
Alisa then moved onto the fundraisers. The car wash will take place this quarter and the gong show is planned to be the week before prom. Our current situation is very unpredictable, so we are still waiting on approval from Politis and Ritters. Once we receive the information, we will update members.
She then moved onto Quarter 3 activities. There are already plenty listed on the weebly site. Alisa reminded everyone to plan accordingly so that they can attend. General meetings will count as 0.5 hours that quarter as well.
The first activity is the District Meeting held by Meryl Liu. It will be on Sunday, January 31st, from 1:30 to 3:00pm on Zoom. Meryl took the mic to explain the details. She first started by talking about how successful the last District Meeting was and that there was a very large Creek turnout. Meryl said that members should click on the signup link and fill out the google form so that she can get an estimate of the people that will attend from SCHS and see if she needs to limit attendees. This District Meeting will be focused on leadership and will have several, keynote speakers. The third and final meeting will be on either April 11th or 18th, depending on when prom is. If members want a district position, it might be beneficial to attend this second meeting.
Alisa took the mic again and reminded people to fill out the google form if they are interested in attending.
Roshani and Jade then took the mic and explained their food drive for Future Veterinarians of Florida. The Halifax Humane Society is accepting any dry or wet, cat or dog food. A $10 donation counts as 1 hour. This will be an in-club hours and members should contact Jade or Roshani if they have questions.
Alisa said to make sure you are donating food and not refrigerated food, since the boxes will be put around school.
She then moved onto the next activity which is the Campus Cleanup led by Sia Bharucha. The signup sheet is on MS Teams. It will be held on Wednesday, February 3rd, from 2:45-3:45. Members should meet Sia in the main atrium.
The next activity is a twist on the Black History Month Jeopardy game from last year. Mariya took the mic to explain. There will be a Kahoot! held on February 19th. It will be after morning announcements during your second period class. Teachers will be able to join and as a class, you can participate to win prizes. The top 3 classes will receive the prizes. There will be an NHS trial run held on February 12th and will count as a 0.5 hour in-club event.
Alisa took back the mic and asked members to fill out the brainstorming google form on MS Teams. This is so that we can get an idea of what everyone knows.
The next activity is in partnership with PAC at SCHS. Three volunteers are needed on January 29th in the parent pickup loop to hand out fliers. This will count as 1 hour. Three volunteers will be needed daily from February 1st-5th to help Grandma Sandi in the pickup loop. The signup sheet is already out for all of these dates. From Tuesday, February 9th to the 11th, five volunteers will be needed per day to organize boxes for each department. Alisa told members to only sign up for a specific day if they are sure that they will be able to. If you are not able to volunteer, donations will be accepted as well. A donation of $10 counts as 1 hour.
The next activities are pretty straight forward. Alisa called the Humane Society and is waiting on a confirmation call from their maintenance department. She is hoping to organize 1 hour shifts from 10:00am-2:00pm with groups of 5-10 people from February 20th to the 21st. We will update members as we receive information. If this works out, there will be a signup sheet sent out. This will take place at the Halifax Humane Society in Daytona and members will help out the maintenance teams with any laundry, cleaning, etc.
In partnership with SGA, NHS will help to create Valentine’s Day hearts in the media center. It will take place on February 2nd at 7:50am and will count as 0.5 hours. Make sure to fill in the signup sheet so that we can get a head count.
There is another plarn making opportunity on March 3rd, from 2:45-3:45. Meet Meryl in the main atrium and feel free to bring any plastic bags if you can. Meryl said that if you made plarn at the District Meeting, bring them to this meeting.
Alisa told members to keep in mind if you have any ideas for service opportunities, reach out to any officers.
Iris then took the mic to explain prospective service activities that don't have a date yet. There is an opportunity to help out at a food bank on Wednesday. This will be good since it is after school. Members can also make animal decorated face shields for pediatric surgeons. There will be a dual beach cleanup weekend in March, one in Port Orange and one in Ormond Beach. Mr.Rohol will attend the one in Ormond. If you have any special leadership character or kindness skills or any things you wish freshmen knew about, you can participate in the vine competition that is being held in partnership with SGA. There will be a spring cleaning silent auction for the American Cancer Society. Any unwanted Christmas gifts or items that you don’t love, you can donate. No broken items, only items that are in brand new/good condition. She then reminded members that they can complete the virtual service activities that have been going on since the beginning of the year.
Alisa said that if anyone wants to help lead activities, they can reach out to her or any other officer. She also reminded people to submit the form on time and then asked if anyone had questions.
Mr.Rohol reminded people to say, “Here,” in the chat in order to be counted for attendance and Mrs.Keith asked members to help label names for the club picture.
Alisa concluded by telling everyone to look at all of the information on the weebly site and adjourned the meeting at 5:56pm
NHS General Meeting Minutes December 16, 2020
Present: Alisa Van Deijck, Madeline Halleran, Sia Bharucha, Iris Qi, Kaylee Van Rij, Reem Abdelghany, Mariya Khan, Meryl Liu, Mrs.Keith, and Mr.Rohol
Alisa started the meeting at 6pm by reminding everyone to read all of the information on the website and Remind messages before asking board members. Members need to make sure they are willing to put in the work and show the 4 pillars of NHS. She reminded everyone that moving forward, everyone should click the links to create less frustration for everyone involved. All links are already posted in a thread on the MS Teams chat.
Alisa congratulated the winners of the door decorating contest and thanked them for all of the participation as they brought the holiday spirit to school. To those who decorated Griffith’s, Roos’s, Fuller’s, Seabolt/Ramirez’s, Phillips’s, and Costner’s doors, congratulations and hopefully they all got their prizes already.
She then went over some quick reminders. If members completed any digital service activities, they should send pictures to Iris for credit and everyone should stay up to date with that. 16 total hours are needed by January 21st, with at least 8 of those being in club. We will go back to quarter hours after the first semester, with 5 in club and 5 out of club hours.
Alisa said that all service activities that are finished and some of the third quarter’s activities are already on the website, as well as in the MS Teams chat.
She reminded everyone that no one should have unexcused absences as the officers have been very outspoken about the makeup quizzes and deadlines. Alisa said that after two unexcused absences, on the third one, members will be kicked out. If members do not have 16 hours, with the required 8 in club hours, by January 21st, they will be put on probation.
Alisa said hopefully everyone has gotten their NHS Badge already and she posted a demo video for anyone that needs help with it. The next district meeting is on January 23rd at Creek. It will be the first service activity for the third quarter.
For fundraising, we are hoping that the car wash takes place during the third quarter and that the gong show will be near prom, during the fourth quarter. These will both be great service opportunities.
Alisa then started to discuss upcoming service activities. She thanked Miriam and Aleena for Hope in an Envelope. All cards for December should have been turned in already. Instead of Nemours Children’s Hospital, the cards will be going to different departments of Halifax Hospital. Alisa thanked everyone that participated and turned in their cards on time.
She reminded everyone that there are two drives that will be running till the end of the week. Blanket Blessings by Jordan Gasowski will be ending tomorrow, December 17th, at 3:30pm. You get 5 hours for one blanket donation with a max of 1 hour. Operation shoebox, led by Olivia Wilson, will end this Friday, December 18th, at 3:30pm. The list of all of the items required has been sent out on Teams and Remind. The sme principle for hours as the cleaning and food drives applies: $10 for 1 hour, with a max of 2 hours. If anyone has any questions, they should read the service excel sheet.
Alisa then moved on to other service opportunities. The final activity for the first semester is the beach cleanup at Toronita Park on January 16th at 9am. It will count as one hour. If anyone is really short on hours, Alisa said that she and Mrs.Keith will be hiding rocks on December 17th and it will count as .5 hours.
Alisa reminded everyone that the January 23rd District Meeting is the first service opportunity for the third quarter. It will be a great meeting led by Meryl.
She then moved onto virtual service activities. Hopefully everyone is aware of these opportunities by now as they have been ongoing since the beginning of the year. These include writing emails/cards, proofreading books, creating posters/podcasts, and transcribing for the Smithosonian. These are great if anyone needs hours and members must send pictures to Iris in order to receive credit.
An out of club activity is the Creek Against Cancer Toy Drive. Contact Emma Mulcahy or Skylar Swanson with any questions if needed. Hours will be the same as past drives.
The links for club photos are in the MS Teams chat. Alisa said that we might redo the pictures, but that is tentative. She reminded everyone to follow the Instagram and Facebook pages to see all that we have done and stay up to date with all information.
Alisa moved on to closing thoughts and said that if anyone has anything that they want to sponsor, then they can reach out to any officers. She then asked if anyone had questions.
She clarified that meetings count at .5 hours each and only if you were present at the meeting. Making up the meetings does not count and the Excel sheet has a list of all of the meeting dates. If people are quarantined, they can put their cards/donations in a sanitized box and have a friend drop it off at school. It is okay to have more in club hours than out of club, as long as you have a minimum of 8 in club. The last beach cleanup for the first semester is at 9am on January 16th at Toronita Park.
Mrs.Keith said that she and Alisa created 18 more teacher cards for all of their hard work and a total of 155 cards were put in the teacher/administrator mailboxes today.
Mr.Rohol congratulated everyone on the cleaning supplies drive as it was an impressive accomplishment. He invited Meryl to talk about the success on the mic. He congratulated all of the card writing as well.
Alisa reminded members that out of club hours cannot make up for in club hours. Also, the sign up sheet for the rocks is in the thread above the meeting.
Meryl took the mic and said that Campbell Middle is very grateful for all of the donations. The faculty said that the donations could not have come at a better time. She thanked everyone that contributed to this success. Helping out those in need is very good, especially during these hard times. Meryl also said that she talked to the coordinators of Campbell's NJHS and is trying to set up a mentoring program so that the students can see what it is like to be in Honors Society in high school. This will most likely be in the third quarter as the logistics are still being worked out. She also said that anyone that helped transport boxes from Creek to Campbell will get two hours.
Alisa began to go over some last reminders. Members must send pictures to her or Iris in order to get credit. All sign up sheets and links are in the thread above the meeting on MS Teams. Everyone should read the links and watch the recording before asking any questions. Members should do their part so that we can have everything run more smoothly.
Mr.Rohol reminds everyone to join the correct meeting on MS Teams. The meeting link will be scheduled in the calendar each month.
Mrs. Keith said that if anyone is inclined to work in the car wash or gong show, they should make their interest known to board members, especially the President, so that we can begin to plan out the events now.
Mr. Rohol complimented Alisa on streamlining all Remind messages, so if anyone has questions on Remind, they should send them to the President.
Alisa suggested that if there is nothing more left to discuss then the meeting may be over. She adjourned the meeting at 6:48pm.
NHS General Meeting Minutes November 18, 2020
Present: Alisa Van Deijck, Madeline Halleran, Sia Bharucha, Iris Qi, Kaylee Van Rij, Elizabeth Greenberg, Reem Abdelghany, Mariya Khan, Meryl Liu, Mrs.Keith, and Mr.Rohol
Alisa began the meeting at 4:30pm with some important updates about voting. Winter Holiday Classics will be the theme for the Door Decoration Contest with about 50% of people voting for it. Members can choose any popular holiday movie such as Elf, Home Alone, etc.
She then moved onto some reminders. If anyone completed digital service activities, then they need to send pictures to Iris for proof. Instead of quarter hours, we will be having semester service hours till January 21st. This means that members need 8 in-club hours, 16 hours total by that day. You can have more in-club than out-of-club as long as you have a minimum of 8 in-club. We will most likely be going back to quarter hours in the third quarter, with a minimum of 5 in-club hours, 10 hours total.
Alisa reminded all members that they should have a minimum of 4-5 in and out of club hours each by now. All service activities are listed on the Weebly site. Members should be keeping track of their hours so that it is easier to log them at the end of the semester.
No one should have unexcused absences. If you miss a meeting, you need to complete the makeup quiz by the next Sunday. If you have two unexcused absences in a row, you will be removed from the club on the third one.
New members should pick up their certificates, membership card, and T-shirt in Portable 7 before or after school.
Club picture day will be on December 4th in the football field. Members should meet there at 8:00am in their NHS shirts. Anyone who has not picked up their shirts by that time can pick them up there. There will also be a small gift for all seniors.
Alisa reminded senior members that the NHS Scholarship deadline is December 1st. The link can be found on the Weebly site. 600 awards are handed out, adding up to a total of 2 million dollars.
Members should sign up for their NHS account and claim their badges if they have not done so yet. These badges can be used for scholarships, resumes, LinkedIn, social media, etc.
The next District Meeting will be held on January 23rd by Meryl Liu.
Alisa then moved onto fundraising. The Gong Show and car wash will both be held in the second semester. Due to COVID, everything is being planned carefully and we will update members on information as it comes.
She then moved onto some of the upcoming service activities. Hope in an Envelope is still being held by Miriam and Aleena. All of the November envelopes should be turned in by now. The signup for the December letters is due by Friday at 11:59pm.
The Cleaning Drive will end on November 20th and so will the Thanksgiving Food Drive. All supply lists have been sent out on remind/MS Teams and there are fliers around school.
The Lead Spark conference will be held from November 20th to 21st. This service activity has been filled and Alisa reminded all members that have signed up that it is this upcoming weekend.
The Blanket Blessings Drive will be held from December 1st to the 17th by Jordyn G. Members can donate gently used blankets or buy some, Walmart is currently having a sale. There is a max 0.5 hour donation. Olivia Wilson is leading the Operation Shoebox drive from these same dates. There is a large list of items that has been sent out on remind and MS Teams. Boxes for all of these drives have been put around the school. Items include toothpaste, blankets, snacks, etc. $20 donation for a max 2 in-club hours.
The Door Decorating Contest is coming up. Members should divide into groups and sign up for a teacher’s door. The doors should be decorated by December 7th. The winners will get prizes. The signup sheet has been posted on MS Teams.
There will be a card making event for teachers on December 2nd in the main atrium at 2:40pm. If you are a Volusia Live student or cannot make it, you can make a card on white cardstock paper and turn it into Mrs.Keith’s mailbox by December 9th. The last service opportunity will be the beach cleanup on January 16th at Toronita Park at 9:00am.
Alisa then moved onto some virtual service activities. These have been going on since the beginning of the year. Members can write emails/cards to nursing homes and first responders. The LeadASAP website has ideas for posters and podcasts and SoldiersAngels has some COVID virtual support ideas. People can help proofread books and even help as a Smithsonian transcriber.
Some out-of-club activities include: the Creek Against Cancer Toy Drive and OperationAwesome Christmas. Contact Emma Mulcahy or Skylar Swansom with questions for the Toy Drive. Members can donate cash or gift cards, or buy items such as stuffed animals or video games for the other drive. Contact Joey Miller with any questions.
She then reminded members to let officers know about any local volunteer or service opportunities that they would like to run or lead. She then opened the meeting up to some questions from members.
Alisa then said there is no other business and adjourned the meeting at 5:03pm.
NHS General Meeting Minutes: October 21, 2020
Present: Alisa Van Deijck, Madeline Halleran, Sia Bharucha, Elizabeth Greenberg, Iris Qi, Kaylee Van Rij, Reem Abdelghany, Mariya Khan, Mrs.Keith, and Mr.Rohol
Alisa started the meeting at 7:00pm by reminding everyone to take pictures of themselves doing virtual service activities and send them to Iris to receive credit. She began to clarify some questions that members had about service hours. From the beginning of school to January 22nd, we will be doing first semester hours. There will be a total of 16 required hours; a minimum of 8 will have to be in club. There can be any combination of hours as long as 8 are in club. Since students will most likely be returning to school after the first semester, we will probably go back to quarters hours for quarters 3 and 4. There will be a total of 10 required hours, with a minimum of 5 in club. Again, any combination is allowed as long as there is the minimum of 5 in club hours.
Alisa reminded members that no one should have any unexcused absences at this point. People need to submit the google quiz form on time as they have 4-5 days after the meeting to complete it. Late submissions will not be counted. If you have two unexcused absences in a row, a third one will lead to a dismissal from the club. So, she told everyone to just be present at the meetings, but if there are any extracurriculars/jobs that come up, make sure to do the make up video and quiz.
As of now, club picture day is still November 9th. There hasn't been any new details, but the board will inform members if anything comes up.
Alisa congratulated everyone for having paid their dues and signing their contracts. However, she told everyone to make sure to sign up for remind in order to stay up to date with all of the information. All of the details about meeting dates and activities are sent on there.
The NHS induction stream was recorded and is posted on the MS Teams tab for anyone that wasn't able to access the stream or wants to rewatch it. All new members need to pick up their certificates, membership cards, and shirts from portable 7 as soon as possible.
Alisa then moved on to fundraisers. We are hoping to have a candy sale or hot chocolate sale in December, but the board is still working out the details. We are also still trying to have a gong show and car wash, but both would be in the second semester as the gimmicks need to be worked out.
Moving onto service activities, Alisa went over past service activities and once again reminded people to send pictures to Iris. She thanked everyone who participated in the group bonding and helped paint rocks and decorate boxes for upcoming drives. Everyone who came that day checked in with Iris so they do not need to worry about sending photos to her.
Alisa then moved onto upcoming service activities. There is a leadership seminar held by the national NHS organization on October 22nd at 7pm. This is great for both in person and online students. Sign ups will be done via zoom link and members need to take a screenshot of them at the seminar for credit. Then she went on to introduce two big projects that are being led by our own NHS members and the NHS district president.
Miriam took the mic to discuss her Hope in an Envelope project. She and Aleena formed Hope in an Envelope to bring positivity to those who are struggling in the pandemic. They made cards for October but they are hoping that fellow NHS members could help make cards for nurses in November and cards for children that may be experiencing health problems and won’t be home for the holidays in December. Then Aleena took the mic and said if members are interested, anyone that signs up will have to make 3-5 cards for 1 service hour. A google doc will be sent out for what message you need to write and what theme, for November it is a fall, Thanksgiving theme. Aleena said that if you want to join, make sure to put your name on the excel sheet by 6pm on October 23rd for the November cards. If anyone has questions, she said to email either her or Miriam.
Alisa took over again and said that the information will be sent out on remind and posted on MS teams. Then she introduced the cleaning supplies drive and invited Meryl to the mic.
Meryl started by explaining that teachers are in need of cleaning supplies such as disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer. It is not fair that sometimes they even have to provide these supplies for themselves as they were not given enough by the school. Meryl’s idea was to operate a cleaning supplies drive on a district level, but first there will be a test run on the Spruce Creek level. As of now we are looking for paper towels, tissue boxes, hand sanitizers, lysol wipes, masks and any other cleaning supplies. It was decided that a $10 donation would count as 1 hour, with a max of 2 hours. For people that are not able to buy supplies or deliver to school, Meryl is hoping to set up an Amazon wishlist. A committee will be formed around November 20th to sort out all items and package them for delivery to teachers.
Alisa took back the mic and explained that there will be a donation box near the main office for Volusia Live students so that they can just drop them off. Specific supply lists will be sent out on remind later on.
She reminded everyone that the district meeting will be held on November 7th from 1-2:30pm on zoom. This link will be sent out closer to that date.
Alisa then moved onto the annual Thanksgiving food drive. The amount of service hours will be the same as the cleaning supplies drive ($10=1 hour, max 2 hours). Each year Spruce Creek NHS helps make boxes for Creek families in need. This year we would like to collect canned fruit, canned vegetables, stuffing mix, quick bread mix, biscuit roll mix, gravy, cranberry sauce, mashed potato packets, pie crust mix, canned milk, coffee, tea, miscellaneous deserts such as cookies etc. Flyers and boxes will be put around school and a list with all of the supplies will be sent later on. It would be great if members took pictures of their donations/receipts for credit.
She then mentioned a great virtual service event that is happening from November 20-21. It is the Lead Spark event that will be led by NHS, NJHS, and NatStuCo members. The spots are limited so anyone who wants to go needs to sign up as soon as possible. She reminded members to tell Iris if they plan on participating for credit.
Iris took over the mic and discussed more virtual service activities. We still have the ongoing activity where members can send emails or write cards to nursing homes and first responders. It would be really nice during these times and a morale boost for everyone. Members can also help proofread books and check grammar; this is an easy activity to do at home. Soldiers Angels offers different service activities and some people have already sent Iris pictures so this would be good to do as well. Another one is to become a Smithosonian transcription volunteer and help proofread/transcribe documents. She reminded everyone that Jordyn G. is holding her annual blanket collection for the homeless. Anyone who has blankets that they do not use anymore or want to buy them at Walmart should donate in December during her drive. Finally, she told members that Uptivisim has moved to an out of club service activity. She ended with telling everyone to take pictures and send them to her or Alisa for credit.
Alisa took over again and said that these are all of the service activities as of now. If anyone has any questions, they can submit them under the thread on MS Teams and read the other questions. She told members that if they had any community service activities that they would like to run, they should contact any board members as we would be happy to help.
Then Alisa told anyone that has their NHS shirts on to turn their cameras on for a group photo. This photo will be posted on the Creek NHS social media pages. She said that any new members that have not been inducted yet need to stay after the meeting with a lit candle to recite the pledge with Mrs.Keith.
Alisa reminded everyone that all of the information about past and upcoming service activities is posted on MS Teams and the Weebly website. There is also a calendar with all of the activities on the website as well.
Mr.Rohol asked if members that are at the meeting need to do the make up quiz. Alisa clarified that only members that miss the meeting need to do the make up quiz. If a member is present, they get credit for attending the meeting. Alisa then dismisses all old members and any new members that have already been inducted. Then Mrs.Keith went on to induct the new members.
Alisa suggested that if there is nothing more left to discuss then the meeting may be over. She adjourned the meeting at 7:24pm.
NHS General Meeting Minutes: September 16, 2020
Present: Alisa Van Deijck, Madeline Halleran, Sia Bharucha, Elizabeth Greenberg, Iris Qi, Kaylee Van Rij, Reem Abdelghany, Mariya Khan, Mrs.Keith, and Mr.Rohol
Mr.Rohol started the meeting at 6:55. He reminded everyone to join the remind, pay the dues, and print/sign the contract. Rohol shared his screen to show everyone the remind code. Incoming juniors should join @creeknhs22 and seniors should join @creeknhs21. All new members received a welcome letter in their emails. If they have any concerns about the spelling of their names, they need to contact Mr.Rohol so that their certificates are right. Only the juniors are voting for a shirt color and they will fill out a google form. To get a virtual badge for linked in, members can go to the NHS website and make a student account.
All of the officers then turned on their introduced themselves and their positions.
Alisa took control of the meeting and reminded everyone to keep the chat clean. The first thing she went over was all of the decisions that needed to be voted on. Juniors need to vote between the current blue, darker blue, and teal blue for NHS Shirts. The most popular on the google form will be chosen. New senior members will receive the same blue as last year. The theme for the door decoration contest also needs to be chosen, because we are not allowed to use “Christmas” in the title. A google form was sent in the chat for students to choose between the different options: Winter Holidays Around the World, Elf on the Shelf, The Nutcracker, The 12 Days of Winter Holidays, and Winter Holiday Classics.
Alisa told everyone to join the remind and follow the NHS social medias: @creeknhs on Instagram and the FaceBook Group. All of the information will be posted on the social media this year in addition to the website and remind.
Alisa introduced the theme for this year, which is “Many Minds, One Mission.” She also told members to contact any of the officers if they wanted to lead on any projects that they are passionate about or want members to participate in.
Mostly for the older members: if any of the virtual service activities from Q4 were done, then they should submit photos as proof to Iris in order to get credit.
In order to stay in the club, EVERYONE (old members and new) needs to sign the contract and pay dues for this year.
The induction ceremony is on September 30 on MS Teams. It is mandatory for all new members to come in order to be officially inducted and be in the NHS. Members must contact Mrs.Keith or Mr.Rohol if they have any conflicts.
Alisa brought up that this year the hour requirement will be a bit different from past years. In order to comply with people who do Volusia Live and other conflicts, there will be a semester requirement rather than a quarter requirement at least for the first semester. In the past it was 5 hours in club and 5 out of club, but now there will need to be 16 hours in total by January 22. There will need to be 8 in-club and 8 out of club. It is possible to have more than 8 in-club; however, the minimum total needs to be 16 with at least 8 being in-club. The weebly site has all of the information on the upcoming service activities.
The last reminder is tentative, but as of now club picture day is set to be November 9. More details will be sent out as we receive more information.
Alisa tells new members that if the contract is not submitted by the 28th, they will not be inducted. They must log into MS Teams at 6:25 and the induction will start promptly at 6:30.
Elizabeth took the mic and discussed fundraising. She mentioned that the Gong Show is our biggest fundraiser, but we do not know if that is happening this year; therefore, we must come up with some creative activities. The Gone Show may happen in the football field, but that is not certain as of now. She told the members if they had any ideas, then they should contact the officers.
She said that the club is thinking of doing a car wash, but it will be planned for the second semester due to COVID. However, the candy sales are a little more pressing. Elizabeth brought up that Iris made candy sleighs last year and that we were thinking about doing a sale around December for the holidays. Each sleigh costs about 95 cents to make, so we are planning to sell them for $2 in order to make $1.05 profit.
Rohol took the mic and told everyone that homecoming week is still planned for October 11-17. Creek still plans to crown a King and Queen and have an outside Carnival. The gong show is not for certain, but that would also be outside. Mrs.Keith says that there will be no dance, which Mrs.Rocco has confirmed.
Alisa went on to discuss upcoming service activities. On September 11, there was a virtual activity that students are still able to participate in for hours. All of the information is on the website and they will have to take a picture as proof and send to Iris for credit. Mostly for Brick and Mortar students, but there is a Bulletin Board Meeting led by Mariya Khan on October 2nd at 5pm. She will be assigning two students to decorate the bulletin board each month.
Alisa told members that at 8:30am this Sunday, September 19, there is a beach cleanup with SEA Club at Toronita Beach Park. Everyone must bring masks, gloves, and trash bags.
She said that the club is planning a group bonding activity on October 14. More information will be sent in the first two weeks of October.
She then went over more upcoming projects. There will be a school supplies/cleaning supplies drive led by District President Meryl Liu. We are also planning a food drive with Halifax Urban Ministries around Thanksgiving as we do every year. Alisa also told members that HUM is looking for volunteers each Tuesday for their Pantry. There is a plan to host a food drive in collaboration with HUM as well.
Iris got on the mic and began to discuss more virtual service projects. She described Uptivism, a program led by a Creek student that focuses on underprivileged communities regarding education and bettering the environment. There is a yearlong tutoring program that currently consists of 25 members, but they are always looking for more. All of the sessions are booked virtually in an open chat type of call.
There are also opportunities to mail letters and cards to nursing homes and proofreading books. She mentioned Youth Service America and how they have ways to better your community on their website. Soldier Eagles is a website that provides aid and comfort to military members, veterans, and their families. There are two ways to help out: members can join a virtual team and work on projects, or they can make things like care packages. The team has a membership cost of $1 per month; however, the other option does not have a monthly cost. All of these opportunities will be linked on the website soon.
Mr.Rohol called Alice Le Roux to the mic to discuss her service activity. There was a giveaway at the Hope Place last Sunday and there are still leftovers clothing items. She wants people to help deliver those to schools around Volusia County (mostly in Deland, Daytona, Deltona, and the Farmer’s Association with Pearson). Alice also mentioned that the Principal of Campbell Middle School wants laundry detergent, so she will be putting a box in the main office at Creek for people to put donations in.
Alisa started to wrap up the meeting with some reminders: the dues and contract are due by September 28th for all members (old and new), people must say “hi” in chat to be counted for attendance, any pictures of members completing digital activities for service must be sent to Iris, and if anyone has any service activities that they want to lead or be done, they should contact the board.
Mrs.Keith introduced herself and asked about some gaps that should be filled in the agenda. Alisa responded to the questions. All of the voting will be done through separate google forms that will be posted in MS Teams and sent through remind and if members have contracts they should slip them into C-16 as Mrs.Keith will be there during both lunches on Thursday and Friday this week. The contracts are mandatory for all old and new members. All information about donations for service hours and other details will be on the website.
Mr.Rohol said that all of the new members received an intro letter that included the survey for the shirts. He also said that the President will push out the survey for the door decoration theme. Then he asked the crowd if they had any questions.
Someone asked if old members are required to join the induction; no, they are not required but it is a fun celebration so they may feel free to do so.
Reem asked everyone to turn on their cameras to get a snapshot for social media.
Alisa suggested that if there is nothing more left to discuss than the meeting may be over. She adjourned the meeting at 7:25pm.
NHS General Meeting Minutes May 20, 2020 on Microsoft Teams
Present: Alisa Van Deijck, Madeline Halleran, Sia Bharucha, Elizabeth Greenberg, Iris Qi, Kaylee Van Rij, Reem Abdelghany, Mariya Khan, Mr.Rohol, and Mrs.Keith
Alisa began the meeting at 11:30 by talking about voting on next year’s t-shirt colors. We had decided to keep the design to minimize costs, but we are able to switch the color. She sent out a google form in the chat and on remind, so that members are able to suggest shirt colors. The board will then pick the two colors that were suggested the most and send out a poll over remind.
Then, she went on to talk about potential service projects that can be done at home that will count as hours for Q1. Members can sew disposable masks and donate to the salvation army by mail or send to seniors at nursing homes. Alisa briefly went over how to make them. Members can also make thank you letters to essential/frontline workers and hospitals.
Alisa moved on to explaining her video project idea for Dr.Sparger before the school year ends. We will need 28 members and it counts as 1 Q1 service hour. The sign should be decorated and must be legible. Alisa showed a couple seconds of another school that did the same idea in order to explain the concept. Members can use colorful papers and other supplies to make their sign stand out. She sent out a signup sheet in the chat box and remind. Videos should be sent to her via remind and she will edit the video in order to send it to the school on May 29th.
Mrs.Keith took up the microphone and began talking about graduation on July 10th at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach. 12 members are needed to pass out programs at the doors. A signup sheet was sent in the chat box and the spots were filled quickly.
She then moved on to talk about a rock painting and excursion day in Sugar Mill Gardens. This was an event that was planned in March but now it will be sometime in the beginning of June. However, the date is not yet solidified. Members and Mrs.Keith will take rocks on an excursion to Sugar Mill to disperse. We will paint cute sayings/advice onto the rocks such as, “Read more!” or “Go outside.”
Mrs.Keith then explained the graduation protocol this year and how due to social distancing, members who volunteer may not be able to sit and watch the ceremony. Then she talked about senior night.
Mr.Rohol began to talk about cap and gown distribution. He said senior members should look for Rohol at the school on May 20 to get honor cords. Then, Mrs.Keith talked about senior shirts for the class of 2021.
Alisa then moved on to saying that if anyone had any service opportunities that they would like to do and share with the club, they can contact any of the board members. We will also send out the forms for next year’s NHS applicants.
Mrs.Keith encouraged all to join the Facebook page, because that is where she posts all of the photos and other information.
Alisa sent links in the chat for all signups for volunteer opportunities coming in the next two months. She also said keep checking NHS social media pages and MS teams to keep up with what is happening.
Mr.Rohol moved that the meeting should be adjourned and Mrs.Keith said that our president should be the one to do so. The meeting was adjourned by Alisa at 11:47.
April 15, 2020 on Microsoft Teams
by Sia Bharucha and edited by D. Keith
Present: Alisa Van Deijck, Madeline Halleran, Sia Bharucha, Elizabeth Greenberg, Iris Qi, Kaylee Van Rij, Reem Abdelghany, Mariya Khan, Mr. Rohol, and Mrs. Keith, plus Outgoing president, Matt Kim and approximately 115 junior members.
Alisa began the meeting at 11:30 by introducing our theme for this year: Many Minds, One Mission. Then she talked about the @creeknhs instagram account and advised members to follow it to stay up to date with accomplishments and other important announcements. Alisa made sure members knew to join the remind for important updates. She also mentioned the calendar that is on the website for a schedule of the events.
Then she moved onto the things that we need to vote on. Everyone seemed to agree on changing the t-shirt color, but we are still uncertain on changing the design, because it could affect our budget too much. We also agreed on not buying membership cards for the Class of 2022, so this saved money could be used towards the new t-shirt design. Details will be decided in the fall concerning the color and possible change of design.
Alisa mentioned having only sheet cake after induction this year, the volunteer hours requirements for incoming members, buying new candles for induction, paying for national membership fees, keeping the yearbook ad, scrapbook purchase order, and minimizing the scholarship to 3-4 people. All members turned their mics on to vote and everyone agreed by general consensus on the items in question.
Mr.Rohol came on the mic and said that there probably won’t be a May meeting, but if we end up having one, then the information will be sent through remind and will be updated on the website calendar.
Then Alisa went on to discuss the upcoming service activities. Because we are all home in quarantine, members will not be obligated to have hours, but there are some ideas that are recommended to do. Juniors that are on probation for the fourth quarter can make up their hours in quarter 1 next school year. Also, any service conducted in these 9 weeks will count towards Q1 hours next year. Today’s meeting will count as well.
Alisa mentioned that the National Student Leadership Week is going virtual from April 19th-25th and that there will be a webinar on Tuesday, April 21st at 3:00pm ET which will count as service. Members will have to take a picture to prove that they were there and send it to one of the officers. She also mentioned that the April 4th Cancer Walk will also be going virtual on Facebook the week of May 18th and that a schedule with event dates will be sent out on remind. Other service activities will include sewing disposable masks and mailing them to the Salvation Army, sewing face masks for the elders in nursing homes, sending letters to the seniors in nursing homes, sending thank you letters to hospitals for all of their hard work, creating paper hearts and putting them on windows and/or sidewalk art showing gratefulness to the first responders during this time. In order for these service activities to count, members will need to take pictures and send them to officers.
Mrs. Keith joined the mic and said that perhaps helping to create scrapbook pages for our events past could be considered a 3rd quarter service hour for members who need them. The board will help with the end of the year senior banquet should it become a reality. Then she went on to talk about where and when our general club meetings will take place next school year. Every third Wednesday, we are set to have a meeting in the auditorium, however there is a conflict with the school play during February, so we are trying to schedule around that date.
Mr.Rohol divulged our induction practice on September 14th and the actual induction will take place on September 15. Our first official whole club General meeting with our newest members will be on September 16th. Then he asked members if they had the yearbook photo of the class of 2021 NHS members since the photo of Jude Flynn’s presidential year is currently pictured. Mrs. Keith said that she will send it out to the board via email.
Madeleine told members to type ‘here’ in the chat box so that she could go over attendance.
Mr. Rohol then said if people had pictures of them doing service activities, then they could send them to the @creeknhs instagram or message them to Kaylee so that they could be featured on the account.
Alisa then said that if anyone had any service opportunities that they would like to do and share with the club, they can contact any of the board members.
Mr. Rohol suggested that if there was no other business to discuss at this time, then the meeting could be adjourned. Mrs. Keith agreed and pointed out it should be the president’s duty to adjourn the meeting. President-Elect Alisa closed the meeting after 40 minutes.

They need to make sure that they are ready to turn their cameras on as they will have about 30 seconds to say everything. Anyone currently on NHS probation will not be eligible to run for office and if anyone ends up on probation after March 17 election who won will not be eligible to take office.
The google form for hours, voting for new officers, and attendance make-up are all due on Sunday, March 21st. Voting results will most likely be released on March 23. For seniors, the fourth quarter hours are not mandatory unless they are on probation. Meeting attendance is also not required unless they are on probation.
Maddie then went over a few reminders. Photos of in-club service activities should be sent to Iris by now. Unless you physically checked in with an officer you need to send in a picture.
No one should have unexcused absences, they must make up the quiz by watching the video on time. They will be kicked out on the third unexcused absence.
Maddie then moved onto the upcoming 4th quarter activities. There will be scrapbook sessions during spring break on March 22, from 2:30 PM- 5:30 PM, and March 23-25, from 10 AM- 3 PM in Mrs.Keith’s office. The signup sheet is on MS Teams. There is a new opportunity to help out at track meets with Coach Gallon. Members will need to register in the signup sheet on teams.
On April 7th, there will be rock decorating and a campus cleanup after school from 3:30-4:30. The signups are located on MS Teams. Next, Elizabeth went over an SGA event regarding prom.
All prospective officers now gave their speeches. Members running for president are Cody McCafferty and Alexa Wolfson. For Vice President we have Melina Motwani and Joshua Spraker. Maddie then said if there was nothing more to be discussed, then the meeting may be adjourned at 5:45.
